Selena Vanderbilt happens to be one of the very few Kooks who don’t see the point of segregating themselves from the Pogues. That’s right, amongst the Vanderbilt legacy, is the daughter of a Mexican immigrant; who doesn't care about social status. With her mother’s family risking it all to come to America; working as hard as the Pogues to simply survive, and seeing how that path lead to her mother to thrive at school from High School throughout University before landing a successful career at as marine biologist, Selena saw no reason to separate the rich from those doing what was needed to survive. It was her mother’s job in North Carolina that soon lead to the meeting between Rosalinda and Nathaniel, that eventually ended in a marriage and Selena herself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Growing up, the female was very much a ‘daddy’s girl’ and with her being the only child, Selena got absolutely everything that ever wanted from the older man. If she wanted a new pet or any new item, typically she would have it no more than an hour later. Her mother, on the other hand, had felt that their daughter needed to work to gain prizes rather than simply getting every thing handed to her. In fact, over the years Linda would have Selena serving many hours to many different charities or serving community service. Usually, older woman would have her daughter help her with her own work.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yet, not even that could save Selena’s once pure soul. Much like most rich kids of the island, Selena felt an overwhelming pressure from her parents. While her father was proud of her modeling and acemdamic achievements, her mother on the other hand thought her grades could have been much better and that the teen’s modeling career was leading her daughter down a trail of disarray and promiscuous behavior. In fact, it would have been easy to say that Selena could never please her hardworking mother, as even being apart of the academy’s cheer team was disgraceful. What Rosalinda didn’t understand was the harsh words and constant berating would only push Selena down a path that ultimately change her whole world.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In attempts of numbing her senses as a small shot of relief from her mother’s comments, Selena started to do what some of her friends did; drugs. At first the nonchalant drug use was rare, something the cheerleader could control. In fact, Selena would only smoke with her friends in some type of small social gathering, due to the fact she despised the way the burning green would smell. However, that never stopped her from over endulging after a big game, right before a party, or even at the party. But that meant on occasion the female would need to be the one to purchase the expensive party favors, but it wasn’t like she couldn’t afford it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Having an unlimited checking account so young perhaps was not the best idea her father had, but there was no way he expected his little girl to spent so much money on drugs. Much like any other big party, the cheerleader found herself hidden on a dock in the south side. With it being out of fishing season and late summer, the dock was empty as marsh filled the surrounding in the dark of night, giving the illusion of emptiness. However, the Vanderbilt knew that one of the infamous drug smugglers from Florida would be docked hidden within the long green of the marsh on his boat. Of course, she could have gotten the party favors from Barry, but truth be told, she didn’t trust his products as much. Besides, buying directly from the source seemed better to the female. Little did she know, on this particular night, the dealer wanted something more than money. As he put it, “he was doing her a favor, so she had to do exactly what he wanted.” Selena, on the other hand, didn’t like being told what to do nor did she like people implying that she owed any one anything, including sexual favors; in which she promptly told the male to fuck off .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After the crude comment escaped Selena’s lips, the conversation became heated. Words as knives flew at each other as an attempt to show some sort of dominance. A shove came from Selena as she tried to make an escape from the situation with her items, but, that did not stop the male from grabbing a hold of her wrist refusing to let her leave the boat without getting what he wanted. Pushing, shoving and hitting exploded within the small fishing boat, surely the bruises would show on the female’s skin just like the male’s. Yet, the violence came to a complete halt as it seemed time stoped. How it exactly happened would be completely unknown, but within a blink of an eye, the dealer had fallen and smacked his head against the corner of the table holding all the drugs.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The world remained silent as the female held her breath waiting to see the male move. Soft crimson fluid slowly pooled out of a small yet deep gash within the male’s skull. Gently, the female collapsed to her knees desperately trying to figure out what to do. Knowing one person had her exact location, she sent a simple ‘ I need you now ’ text and waited.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For what felt like an eternity, Selena waited, yet as soon as the eldest Cameron child stepped onto the boat, she let out her breath. The two poked and prodded the drug dealer; with the dealer appearing to lack any signs of breathing, the options and schemes to fix the mess faded into one option; Ward Cameron. After all, he was the only adult they trusted in town at the time. Being that both her parents tended to travel for work, and with Nathaniel being extremely close to Ward; Selena saw Ward as a father figure. How could she not, seeing as she grew up right next door and that she had more memories with the Cameron family and hers than without the Camerons.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ By the time Ward had arrived, the blood stained more and more of the shaky boat’s floor. The body laid there with no movement whatsoever. Mentally, Selena was already thinking of how Sheriff Peterkin would be putting her in cuffs after confessing what had occurred in the marsh. Her life was over as she knew it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Just as she was fully ready to turn over and give up her freedom, Ward did the unexpected, he had instructed the two to go home, shower, and go to where they were planning to before this; he would handle the mess. Not questioning the older male, the two did exactly that, built their alibi.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. No one knew of the crime that had been committed in the marsh, in fact no one had even thought to look into it. It was almost as though nothing had ever happened.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Since that dark night, the model began smoking more and more to escape the reality of her crimes. She craved anything that would shield her brain from her nightmares that lurked in the shadows. She began to hookup with more and more people to crave some sort of touch that would lace with her highs, and make her forget. Selena put all of her energy into things that could distract her: cheer, modeling, working out, relationships, random touches and drugs. She wanted to feel something other than the inner self loathing and numb feeling buried six feet within her.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Regardless, the brunette put on a facade of a calm, happy, observant, promiscuous, bitchy persona; Selena Vanderbilt was completely broken under the mask feeling as though she was lost out at sea.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Outer Banks may be her home, but it almost felt like her very own prison hidden with the happy moments.
